TL;DR – Juicy start, soft on the throat and pleasant going down…make of that what you will..
Here we go, my first sparkling cider of 2021.
You know the feeling you get when you bite into a fresh, extremely juicy apple, well Dunkertons Craft Organic is a cider that tastes just like the first bite of said juicy apple – it’s fruity, refreshingly wet and has a little bite to it.
I should note that I experienced Dunkertons Craft from the tap, not bottled or canned.
It’s a medium cider, so it has a gentle sweetness about it. There was an ever so slight dryness, but nothing that would put off a newbie to cider.
Dunkerton’s Craft is very pleasant on the eye. It’s a lovely crystal pale yellow, a colour that reminded me or lemon drops or lemon sherbert.
It’s fine looking cider. I don’t mean fine like “it was okay”, I mean more like my hairline – thin.
In one sentence, it’s a pleasant hydrated yellow.
Nose is always the fun part because smells bring up all sorts of memories and everyone has a different olfactory experience.
Dunkertons was one of those ciders I could put my finger on. There was a smell that I was familiar with but I just couldn’t work it out. It did have a slight farmhouse smell to it, which I was surprised by considering it’s doesn’t taste farmhousey at all.
I handed the smelling over to Jack who, and we’ve had similar smelling ciders before, pointed out that it smells of toilet cakes in a public toilet.
Is this a bad smell? Or is this a guilty pleasure. A smell that we’re all familiar with as we walk in the toilets on Bournemouth beach. A smell we try to hide away from, but we always take a double take sniff.
This doesn’t make Dunkertons a bad cider at all, far from it. It makes Dunkertons craft a little fun, but you can only have so much fun in a public toilet.
I did have a lovely time drinking this cider. I would personally recommend this to anyone trying to get into cider. It’s a safe one that goes down easy, but does have vague elements for the more advance palate.
That being said, I do like my ciders to have a little more obscurity – perhaps a little more toilet cakes.
Cheers,
Dan
