Local Fox Cider Review

I was most excited about this Cider from July’s Crafty Nectar subscription box.

Don’t let the small bottle fool you, this Cider is big in flavour and strong at 6% ABV.

Local Fox is a Cider by The Orchard Project, a charity that aims to bring back the UK’s orchards into our communities. It’s created from rescued/ donated apples which is a fantastic idea!

Eyes

Straight up, Local Fox has a striking, dark colour. It’s a deep amber.
The burnt toffee colour offers some foreshadowing with what’s to come.

Lifting the glass towards the light gives off a nice orange solar flare.
I feel like I could find a mospuito in there to bring back the dinosaurs.

Nose

Sweet toffee fills my nose at first but then burnt toffee hits the back.

There is a slight alcohol smell which is reminiscent of caramel vodka.

Mouth

Firstly the light fizz dances on my tongue.
It’s fairly dry but not dry enough to call for a hose pipe ban.

I was expecting Local Fox to be sweet, especially with the description on the bottle being “toffee notes” but actually the flavour was more like burnt caramel – not Werther’s Originals.

I’ve been keeping this in the fridge for a few weeks, so it’s a nice cool temperature. I can see how this crisp drink could be refreshing on a really hot day.

The Core

This is a very unique Cider. It’s unique in colour and flavour.
I was expecting something sweeter, and I think I got a little too hyped for this one.

It’s by no means a “bad” Cider, FAR FROM. It’s just not quite my cup of tea and that’s fine. I think on the right day, I’d enjoy it more.

What I don’t like, you might love, so always go out and try these ciders for yourself.

I love the idea of this Cider and I love the organisation behind it.
