Panting Partridge Perry – Newton Court Cider

Panting Partridge Perry by Newton court cider

TL;DR (Too Long Didn’t Read) – Sweet, innocent & delicious. Flavours of honey, pear and bran come together to form this delicious, refreshing Perry.

Dan’s Thoughts

And on the 7th day, God created Panting Partridge Perry…

It’s hard to say anything “funny” about this perry. It feels too sweet and innocent to taint with my smut and disgusting sense of humour.

Have you heard of the Trolley Problem? The ethical thought experiment with the train tracks and you have to choose who to save?
Well, this cider is so sweet and innocent that, given the choice between saving Jack on one track and a cask of Panting Partridge Perry on the other, you ethically have to choose the perry. It would almost certainly spawn a pair of puppy dog eyes and whimper for you to save it – yes the perry, not Jack.
Jack with puppy dog eyes is like staring into a well of eternal unhappiness – like a sick, aged dog.

Ethics lesson over, lets talk about the smell.

Smell

The smell is an interesting one. At first I smelt pure, sweet nectar but when asking for Jack’s opinion, he smelt Dulux emulsion paint. Upon a second sniff, I too picked up on this, but I can’t be too sure if it was my mind wanting to smell paint. That sounds like a bad smell to have for a cider, but actually it was really pleasant and different.

Taste

I picked up on three stages of flavour.
Stage 1 was like biting into a slab of honey.
Stage 2 was the refreshing pear flavour.
Stage 3 had a wheaty, bran-like flavour. This kicked in around 20 seconds after swallowing.
I’m not usually a fan of the bran, but I actually really enjoyed this one. All these flavours just worked nicely together and I really enjoyed the process of working out the different levels.

LOOKS

Panting Partridge Perry has a perfectly picturesque mild yellow, slightly chalky colour palette to it.

MUST HAVE in my books!

Gasping Goose is another Cider by Newton Court Cider that we have reviewed, go check that blog post out too.
