UK Cider Reviews

InCider Press are a UK based Cider blog.

If you haven’t guess already we love Cider. We believe the UK boasts the best Cider available on the globe, but don’t get us wrong, we LOVE that Ciders are growing in popularity across all the seas that surrounding us.

Jack, one of our esteemed writers, grew up in the West Country where Cider is a staple and used in replacement of baby formula (it’s not).

The West Country, for our friends across all the ponds, covers the beautiful areas of Cornwall, Devon, Gloucestershire and most importantly, Somerset. (See the debately accurate drawing of the West Country in the image to the right.)

Somerset has the largest amount of registered Cider Makers including the world famous, Thatchers
Lets take a look at the history of Cider in the UK.

The History of Cider in the UK

Cider was first recorded by Julius Caesar whilst on holiday here 55BCE. Actually, we can’t be sure it was a holiday, probably an invasion. Like everything else, it was the Romans, because it’s always the Romans.
Caesar found a group of native Celts that were fermenting crabapples and kindly shared this recipe across Europe as he retreated home after his “vacation” here.

Cider was my drink because I liked the taste and it made me stupid.
