Sheppy’s Original Cloudy Cider Review

Sheppys original cloudy cider in a wine glass with the bottle in the background.

When we first started this blog, I remember trying a Sheppy’s cider – I don’t remember which one. I do remember not being too fond of it.
Recently I’ve been really wanting to try again, so I was really pleased to see this cider on the shelf of my local Waitrose.
Has my mouth matured enough to now enjoy a Sheppy’s cider? Was I just completely wrong in the first place? Read on to find out!

What does Sheppy's Original Cloudy look like?

Sheppy’s Original Cloudy cider is really unique in its aesthetics. This cider has a musky, orange tinge to it. When pouring into the glass, many sparkling bubbles cling to the edges.
It has the look of freshly squeezy orange juice – unfiltered and rustic.

What does Sheppy's Original Cloudy cider smell like?

At first you’ll get musky traditional tones up your nose. You’ll notice some subtle citrus notes and refreshing apple in there too.

What does Purbeck No.10 taste like?

I love it when a cider surprises me.
Because of the cloudy nature I was expecting this Sheppy’s cider to be more tradtional in flavour than it was.
Upon impact, there was a burst of fruitiness which made my eyes open up and I may have even vocalised a “woah”.

Quick history lesson – When I was a child, I was a fussy eater.
The only way my parents could get me to eat apple, was by coating it in lemon juice – this reminds me of that snack.
It’s not as sharp as straight up lemon, this is a medium-sweet cider after all, but just like the smell, there’s citrus in there.
As it keeps going, it becomes clear to me that Sheppy’s Cloudy is incredibly moreish.
There are still traditional elements in there but not as prominent as I thought there would be.

If Sheppy’s was a pie made by my grandmother, I’d be asking for the recipe!
