Making judgements from the bottle alone I expected something on the dry and bitter from this Cider by Rich’s Cider. But were my expectations met?
What are we looking at? This Cider is a deep and very rich gold with an almost Tangerine hue. Like others before it, small bubbles and the slight fizz whilst pouring shows me it’s a sparkling one.
Shoving my nose into the glass and i’m hit with an extremely fragrant wave of apple. That sounds obvious but I’m telling you it was surprisingly intense.
Other sniffs open up the nasal receptors to receive a bucket load of sweet apple smells with a finish of barnyard.
I can also smell alcohol so this Cider smells like a moonshine lab in an apple barn.
This Cider was mental. Tasting it feels like the entire process of eating an apple.
It’s sweet, dryish and then it gets bitter. You break through the skin to a juicy apple and as you chew more the skin breaks down into a bitter pulp.
Then there’s a watery finish which mellows out the whole experience.
Golden Years Tremlett’s Bitter is lightly sparkling but I wouldn’t say it’s particularly refreshing, especially on the evening of writing this. This is due to it’s bitter side and tartness.
What’s cool about this Cider is that it was matured in oak vats and you can definitely pick up on some oaky, woody notes.
I like a dry Cider, but for me personally, this was a little too on the bitter side.
I really enjoyed the smell of this one as you could probably tell by the reaction on my Instagram reel.
The label and branding suggested this would be a mature, dry, bitter Cider and it delivered just that.
As always, I encourage everyone to try all the Ciders we do. What I like, you might not, and vice versa.
