What is the best fruit Cider?

The bottle of Recipe No.5 blackcurrant cider next to a wine glass with some cider in.

I’ll start by saying I’m not a fan of fruit Ciders, mainly because a lot of them use sweetners or artifical flavourings.
BUT there must be one out there I’d like? And what is the nicest fruit Cider in the world?
Welcome to this review about Recipe No.5 by Napton Cidery.

I don’t want to give much away, although you’ve probably scrolled to the bottom to see the ratings already, but I am so happy Crafty Nectar has introduced me to this Cider.

Eyes

A wine glass with blackcurrant cider being held up to the light.

It’s refreshing not having to liken a Cider as a shade of pee…although if I did with this one, that would be very disturbing.

It’s a deep red, but with a tint of apple juice in certain lights.

Think of it as a more a transparent red wine.

Nose

Ever been on a tour of a fruit orchard?
“On your right Ladies and Gentlemen, is the Blackcurrant field and on the left is our apple orchard.” That’s how Recipe No.5 smells.

This Cider has jammy notes, it’s juicy and smells similar to a blackcurrant starburst.

Leave your nose to linger in there and you get the apples afterwards but blackcurrant definitely, and rightly so, takes centre stage.

Mouth

Firstly, its so unbelievably well balanced, as all things should be, Thanos would choose this as his go-to drink.
I thought Recipe No.5 was going to be overly sweet like the mainstream fruit Ciders but it’s really not.

Every time I go to sip, I think the fruit side of it (the blackcurrant) is going to over sweeten my taste buds, but then a really nice mellow tang of blended blackcurrant and apple sweeps over.

It’s truly amazing that no flavour overpowers the other.

There are light jam flavours but the texture isn’t thick, heavy or rich like jam (jelly for my American cousins).
Due to it’s sweet nature, there’s no dryness to be found, as expected.

It’s VERY morish, it’s light and it’s refreshing – I’d even be tempted to put this on ice.

The Core

I love it. BUT I dont think you’d win over someone who regularly drinks the popular fruit ciders like Rekorderlig or Old Mout. I don’t think it would be sweet enough for them, but maybe we can win them around.

As mentioned at the start, I wasnt a fan of fruit ciders, but I’m pleased to say my eyes have been opened to what they can be and they can be made naturally with beautiful balancing too.

I thought this would be the one I least liked out of the 3 from the Craft Nectar Subscription box but I was wrong and I’m so glad I was.

I’m honestly so elated I found this Cider. I couldn’t stop thinking about it throughout the whole drinking experience or hours afterwards.

So what is the nicest fruit Cider? Because of all I’ve said about Recipe No.5, it is, in my opinion, currently…blackcurrantly, the nicest fruit Cider.

Amen.
